The photoelectric beam works with automatic gate or door controller cards used on sliding, swing or roller doors. It is usually used as a safety device to control automatic gates and doors. It prevents damage to vehicles which drive into the path of a closing gate.

Photoelectric beams can also be used for security purposes where the gate will close as soon as a vehicle has passed through the gate.
